Entertainment Reviews:
YESTERDAY keeps the balloon in the air, sending Jack on a giddy trip to stardom with the help of the real-life Sheeran and a hilariously insensitive L.A. manager played by Kate McKinnon, in all her cockeyed deadpan glory.
Washington Post
[Jack] plays 'Yesterday' for his friends, and the looks on their listening faces is a potent -- and welcome -- reminder of the song's melancholy beauty. The entire film stops, allowing us the space to really listen.

Rating: 1.5/5 --
A film that misunderstands the appeal of The Beatles more thoroughly than the 1978 disaster Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Rating: 2/5 --
The 'rom' half of this rom-com is unconvincing. In the end, we can hear "love is all you need, all you need is love" (or some variation thereof) throughout Yesterday, but it'll never amount to anything more than a pretty bit of karaoke.

[A] crowd-pleasing and sometimes enjoyable....Kate McKinnon plays the film's most entertaining character...

Boyle does have two fun leads in Patel and James, though, and a wonderful musical accompaniment, even if those songs are performed by Jack and not the Fab Four.

At heart, the movie is a fantasy of rebooting the Beatles -- of imagining that if their music came at us now, for the first time, it would be, in a word, yuge.
