3.5 stars out of 4 -- In the end, FILMWORKER is a portrait of an unsung hero, a revealing look at how Kubrick's films were made and a psychological sketch of a would-be Da Vinci determined to keep dusting and polishing someone else's Sistine Chapel.
Rolling Stone

Rating: 2.5/5 -- Filmworker works best when poking holes in the altar of genius men whose attention to detail is almost always inexplicably tethered to being an outright bastard. Full Review
Spectrum Culture
Jul 17, 2019
Rating: 3/4 -- "Filmworker's" greatest value lies in pulling the lens back to allow viewers to understand film as a deeply collaborative medium, one in which even the most venerated auteurs cannot accomplish their greatest feats alone. Full Review
Washington Post

4 stars out of 5 -- In this edifying, occasionally troubling documentary, we learn that Vitali gave up acting, choosing instead to learn the craft of film-making from Kubrick’s side.
The Guardian
May 20, 2018
Rating: 4.5/5 -- Few voices are missing from this incredibly thorough piece of work. Zierra has rounded up dozens of cast and crew members with stories to tell, and though the film is densely packed with information, nothing feels extraneous. Full Review

4 stars out of 5 -- [The] compelling documentary offers rare on-set footage and surprising glimpses into the auteur’s MO, but the portrait that sticks is of Vitali himself.
Empire
May 15, 2018
Rating: 4/5 -- There is something genuinely touching about Kubrick's blind faith in Vitali. Full Review

Product Description:

This documentary chronicles the relationship between filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and his right-hand man, Leon Vitali. Featuring Vitali's personal photos and videos, as well as interviews with Kubrick's other industry co-workers, including Ryan O'Neal, Stellan Skarsgard and R. Lee Ermey. Directed by Tony Zierra.
