Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 3/5 --
It's a sketch of a film, but more than workable as a vehicle for Mendelsohn at his delicate, tragicomic best.

Rating: 4/5 --
Mississippi Grind is a rarity: an American movie about gambling that actually acknowledges that when you stay up all night in a badly lit room, your skin is likely to become very clammy and blotchy.

Rating: 3/5 --
The film earns major points for giving Ben Mendelsohn a proper, meaty character to tussle with, no longer psychotic second banana or madballs deus ex machina.

Little White Lies
GRIND is still very much a movie about lovable losers, leaning hard on the charisma of its two stars. Mendelsohn plays Gerry as a stringy, sweaty hunk of pure desperation, while Reynolds, as the ostensibly more stable partner, demonstrates yet again that he’s much more than a ridiculously pretty face.

Rating: 4/5 --
From its unshowy script on down, Mississippi Grind is content to rumble along as a character piece, keeping its storytelling loose and unpredictable, like a repeat flick of the dice.

Product Description:
Down-on-his-luck and hopelessly in debt, lifelong gambler Gerry (Ben Mendelsohn) drifts through life in Iowa with little to look forward to. Unexpectedly, he comes across the sharp-dressed and quick witted risk-taker Curtis (Ryan Reynolds), who passes through his quiet home town. The two befriend over drinks and betting, and chart a course to a high-stakes poker game in New Orleans. As their road trip begins, the checkered past of both men threaten to derail their blowout shot at redemption. Impressive directing duo Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden helm this intense character study of addiction and the power of money.
