It's beautifully tense and well-acted - the kind of modest genre picture we don't see enough of these days. Full Review

Peregrym in particular is put through her paces; her physical performance is commendable...

Rating: 2.5/4 -- Apparently inspired by a true story that the movie made me very much not want to look up, which I suppose may be taken by some to be a token of its effectiveness. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- Backcountry thrives in the close-quarter details: the verbal knife-pricks of a dying relationship, the jangling impact of the smallest sounds breaking silence, that dread certainty that you're completely lost and it's getting dark. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- The anxiety is palpable and various threats are immediately recognizable, communicating how illusory the concept of control is, and how frightening it can be when it's lost. Full Review

Product Description:

A young couple on a weekend camping trip into the wilderness wage a grueling struggle for survival in this visceral thriller from Canada. Jenn (Missy Peregrym) is a high-powered executive whose cellphone is never out of reach. Determined to salvage their troubled relationship, Jenn's boyfriend Alex (Jeff Roop) takes them to a secluded campsite near a scenic lake where he used to play as a child. After popping their tent, the couple are settling in when lone hiker Brad (Eric Balfour) appears out of nowhere, and joins them for dinner. The fire dimming later that evening, however, Brad departs, leaving Jenn and Alex to prepare for their long hike the following day. Setting out bright and early, the couple make their way ever deeper into the sprawling forest, only realizing they're hopelessly lost once darkness begins to fall. Meanwhile, their nightmare has only just begun, because many dangers dwell in the forest, and they're about to face the worst one imaginable.
