Entertainment Reviews:
[T]he film does have an asset that can't be ignored, and that's Helen Mirren's tip-top performance as the film's costar.
Los Angeles Times
Rating: 8/10 --
If there's a weak link, it is the script, which drifts toward tedious at times--something hard to imagine with this story. In the end, the performances and the subject create an inspirational film.

[I]t’s a fascinating story...beautifully photographed and greatly elevated by a brilliant performance from the invaluable Helen Mirren.
Chicago Sun-Times
Swapping her native British accent for an impeccable Austrian one, Helen Mirren brings a zesty eccentricity to the role of Maria Altmann...
A.V. Club
One of the film’s small pleasures is the sometimes contentious relationship between Randy, Reynolds’s earnest whippersnapper of an attorney, and his somewhat starchy senior-citizen client. It adds a bit of crackle to the film.
Washington Post
Rating: 5/10 --
A merely adequate tale of identity and family and the American Dream. It's a sad Hollywood tradition to take amazing, bizarre true stories, sterilize them, prune them, buff them, and smoosh them into a uniform, textureless box.

Way Too Indie
Although Maria lives modestly, as embodied by Ms. Mirren, she is a woman of enormous cultural refinement....Assuming a clipped Viennese accent and maintaining a rigid posture, she exudes a keen-eyed patrician composure.
New York Times
Product Description:
Six decades after WWII, an elderly Jewish woman (Helen Mirren) returns to Vienna in order to reclaim family belongings that were once seized by the Nazis in this poignant drama based on a true story. Chief among those items is the Gustav Klimt painting "The Lady in Gold." With the help of her ambitious young lawyer (Ryan Reynolds), the woman takes her fight all the way from Austria to the U.S. Supreme Court.
