Detour (1945) - Edgar G. Ulmer’s twisting and turning “poverty row quickie” stars Tom Neal as a New York nightclub pianist hitchhiking west to be reunited with the fiancé who jilted him. The Stranger (1946) - The great Orson Welles directed and stars in this tense thriller as a respected small-New-England-town professor who will stop at nothing to conceal his shocking and deadly past. The Strange Love of Martha Ivers - Barbara Stanwyck is “twice the hard-boiled, lustful vixen that she played in Double Indemnity” (The New York Times) in this gripping drama of small-town secrets and murder.
