Description by OLDIES.com:

This terrific box set includes seven vintage, high-voltage American crime film classics that defined one of Hollywood’s most popular and collectible genres. Movies don’t come any cooler… or hotter! With its knockout slipcase, star power, superior picture quality, and treasure trove of extra features, it would be a crime not to stock up!

D.O.A. (1950) - Edmond O’Brien stars as Frank Bigelow, a C.P.A. whose number is up when he unwittingly swallows a drink with radioactive poison in it. With only a few days to live, he is plunged into an ever-darkening nightmare as he desperately tries to find out who killed him… and why. Filmed in San Francisco and Los Angeles, this “gripping, original film noir” (Leonard Maltin) is one of the classics of the genre. Directed by Rudolph Mate.

Detour (1945) - Edgar G. Ulmer’s twisting and turning “poverty row quickie” stars Tom Neal as a New York nightclub pianist hitchhiking west to be reunited with the fiancé who jilted him. As fate would have it, he gets into the wrong car and picks up the wrong woman, and before you can say, “Are we there yet?” he’s embroiled in blackmail and fraud. Starring Tom Neal and Ann Savage. Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer.

The Stranger (1946) - The great Orson Welles directed and stars in this tense thriller as a respected small-New-England-town professor who will stop at nothing to conceal his shocking and deadly past. Edward G. Robinson costars as a war crimes investigator who will stop at nothing to find and expose him. Starring Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson, and Loretta Young. Directed by Orson Welles.

Scarlet Street (1945) - Screen legend Edward G. Robinson stars as a mild-mannered cashier and amateur painter whose obsession with a beautiful blonde leads to embezzlement and murder. Starring Edward G. Robinson and Joan Bennett. Directed by Fritz Long.

The Strange Love of Martha Ivers - Barbara Stanwyck is “twice the hard-boiled, lustful vixen that she played in Double Indemnity” (The New York Times) in this gripping drama of small-town secrets and murder. Starring: Barbara Stanwyck, Kirk Douglas, Van Heflin, and Lizabeth Scott. Directed by Lewis Milestone.

Killer Bait (a.k.a. Too Late for Tears) (1945) - A dissatisfied wife. An honest husband. A two-bit detective. A bag containing $60,000. You do the math. It all adds up to a gritty and authentic film noir gem. Starring Lizabeth Scott and Dan Duryea. Direct by Bryan Haskin.

Suddenly (1954) - Frank Sinatra gives a tour-de-force performance in his most controversial film as a hired killer who holds a family hostage in the desperate hours before he plans to assassinate the President of the United States. Starring: Frank Sinatra and Sterling Hayden. Directed by Lewis Allen.

Extra Features:

  • Film Noir Trailers - Thrill to the original theatrical previews of thirty-eight film noir classics, including Double Indemnity, The Postman Always Rings Twice, and Key Largo.
  • Film Noir Poster Gallery - Works of art as compelling and seductive as the films themselves.
  • What is Film Noir? - A crash course in crime drama, American-style.
  • Femme Fatale-The Noir Dame - When they were good, they were very good, but when they were bad, they were terrific!
