Description by OLDIES.com:
A documentary of the first American visit by the Beatles' lead guitarist George Harrison. While John Lennon went to Paris, Ringo and Paul went to Greece, George, accompanied by his brother Peter, arrived in Benton, IL in September 1963. George & Peter were in Benton to visit their sister Louise Harrison-Caldwell, who had moved to Benton in March 1963.
In a quaint corner of southern Illinois, the early stirrings of Beatlemania in America began to resonate with George Harrison's fortnight visit in 1963, a tale delightfully chronicled in Robert Bartel’s documentary "A Beatle in Benton, Illinois". The 60th Anniversary Edition DVD excavates the deep-seated Beatles connection to Benton, revitalizing the remarkable journey of a young Beatle before the heralded British Invasion. This special edition intricately melds the quaint charm of rural Illinois with the nascent echoes of a musical phenomenon.
The film, a tribute to an enduring legacy, recounts the intertwined fates of the Harrison brothers and the townsfolk, encapsulating a serendipitous union of cultures. Harrison’s whimsical encounters, from impromptu jam sessions with local band The Four Vests to igniting the inaugural spark of Beatlemania on American radio waves, are meticulously documented. This edition, enhanced with richer visuals and additional interviews, plunges deeper into the Beatles' enigmatic allure, as seen through the lens of a small town on the cusp of a global musical revolution.
