Entertainment Reviews:
Bright Lights plucks [Fisher's] star and that of her mother down from distant heights and lets us gently hold them for a time, reassuring us that their brilliance and humanity was real, their mutual endearment unbreakable.

Many of those mourning the deaths last week of "Star Wars" icon Carrie Fisher and her mother and Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds feel as if they've lost good friends. The HBO documentary ... helps explain that grief.

So many surprises and revelations, this intimate visit in their homes and heads is pure genius and a wonderful tribute to these ladies who clearly were the loves of each other's lives.

What She Said
Ms. Fisher is brainy and salty and hilarious, and she's frank and eloquent in describing being bipolar.

A gentle, minor tribute to one of Hollywood's greatest loves that proves how lucky we were to have them, and how much luckier they were to have each other.

The film transcends utility. It's a sober yet gracious cautionary tale about fame and fandom and a powerful portrait of love in action.

No matter how unsinkable you are, no matter how hard you try to use The Force, it's impossible to look at that image of mother and daughter, fiercely by each other's sides, and do anything other than cry.

Description by OLDIES.com:
An intimate portrait of two of Hollywood's most fascinating personalities, Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds has become both a requiem and celebration of the two movie icons who unexpectedly died one day apart in December 2016. Shot mainly inside the Beverly Hills compound where both Fisher and Reynolds lived (their two houses were connected by one walkway), the film captures the unique chemistry and eccentricity that bound these two generations of Hollywood royalty. Given unusual access to each woman's home and life, directors Alexis Bloom and Fisher Stevens captured the quicksilver wit and intelligence shared by both women as they orbited around each other, living separate lives but kept close by the gravitational pull of love and family.
