Violet (Dixie Lee), a disillusioned carnival girl eager to leave behind her transient lifestyle, soon finds herself in the big city where she meets a charming songwriter (Joe Morrison) who is determined to sell his music. Just when she thinks her future is brightening, her brother (George Burns) and his Turkish-dancer wife (Gracie Allen) track her down. It seems the business is in trouble, their father is in jail, and they need money fast. Not wanting her rocky past to affect her new mans future, Violet leaves him to go back home but soon finds that her love is stronger than she ever imagined.
