Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 2/5 --
As trite as the framework is, Dear God might have been a charming holiday film, if only its miracles weren't so trite.

This shows Greg Kinnear at his most forced. Director Garry Marshall should've given Kinnear and the other actors more depth before taking it to the silver screen.
Town Talk (Alexandria, LA)
...A fanciful comedy with an arresting premise....[Kinnear's] natural poise and charm make him a highly likable and effective leading man...
Variety
Rating: 3/4 --
Garry Marshall's fast-paced, Capra-esque comedy probably out-Capras Capra himself in sentimentality, but the terrific cast makes for a rarity: a feel good-comedy that's actually very funny.

It unfortunately has an unfinished quality, and plays very much like a good first draft for a much better movie than the one on view.
Variety
Rating: 1/4 --
A sickeningly bad pastiche of much better pictures.

A goofy, goodwill gesture toward the U.S. Postal Service, it's never funny and moves slower than an unaddressed letter without postage.

Product Description:
In lieu of prison, fast-talking con artist Tom Turner (Greg Kinnear) is sentenced to employment in the dead letter department of the post office. Turner thinks he has found a perfect solution for all the undeliverable mail--and his own gambling debts--when he begins to plunder valuables found in the discarded letters. But when he mistakenly sends money meant for his bookie to the address of one of the "Dear God" letters, Turner finds himself the unexpected leader of a crusade of good will--and an accidental hero to the entire city.
