Alternately tedious and bombastic, the film never achieves a consistent tone, and the characters and situations, while seemingly played on a realistic level, are neither remotely credible nor satisfyingly surreal.

Rating: 2/5 -- The message about race relations in America conveyed by this choppy and psychologically cauterized screen adaptation of Bernard Malamud's 1971 novel is dire.

Rating: 2.3/5 -- [Snoop] and McDermot have a weird chemistry together and fascinating to watch.

Rating: 3/5 -- The Tenants ranges from one-set character piece to race-centric speech-making to Cinemax style bedroom dealings... Well, at least it's not boring. Full Review

Product Description:

An explosive meeting of the minds--and hearts--takes place in a rundown tenement in Danny Green's debut feature, where two artists struggle to express themselves despite their very different obstacles. Harry Lesser (Dylan McDermott) is a white, blocked writer who has been working on his novel for the past 10 years. Willie Spearmint (Snoop Dogg in a disconcertingly intense performance) is an uneducated militant determined to write a history of the black experience. The two expand each other's notions of artistry, becoming friends and ultimately rivals in both art and love. The film was shot in the famously haunted Ambassador Hotel in L.A., where Robert Kennedy was assassinated. Rose Byrne (WICKER PARK, TROY) co-stars.
