Rating: 3/5 -- A soft-centred piece of movie confectionery, not without charm. Full Review

I'd praise Horovitz for going the darker route if My Old Lady wasn't so wrenchingly obvious and Kevin Kline's character wasn't so venal and cruel. Full Review

Rating: 2/5 -- There can be great pleasure in seeing egos pricked and lessons learned in this kind of tightly wound chamber piece, but only when there's a sense things could have turned out otherwise. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- Smith's great gift is that she doesn't telegraph anything. Full Review

A quiet, thoughtful and ultimately satisfying film, "My Old Lady" is a truly well-executed story told by some of the finest actors you can possibly watch in a film. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- It's absorbing, even if its pace is somewhat stately, and, although its resolution is in many ways telegraphed by its context, it still has the power to tug at the heartstrings in a most unexpected way. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- Having Maggie Smith on screen is like biting into a crisp, slightly sour apple. Even when she is playing a woman in her nineties, quilted with wrinkles, the interior is deliciously tart. Full Review

Product Description:

Despondent New Yorker Mathias Gold (Kevin Kline) ventures to Paris with plans of liquidating the apartment inherited from his late father, but runs into an unexpected roadblock when he discovers that the flat is currently inhabited by his father's former lover, an elderly Englishwoman named Mathilde Girard (Maggie Smith), and her adult daughter Chloé (Kristin Scott Thomas). Realizing he's reached an impasse after learning that Mathilde can legally collect regular payments from him until her death, Mathias convinces her to enter into a tentative lodging agreement that's complicated by Chloé's suspicion over his meetings with a predatory property developer with an eye on the apartment. Later, tensions begin to subside as Mathias and Chloé find a common ground in sharing stories about their troubled childhoods, and Mathilde reveals a secret that connects the trio in ways that once seemed impossible.
