Description by OLDIES.com:
Leading lady Mary Astor (1906-1987) surmounted considerable personal troubles to become one of Hollywood's most popular and durable actresses. Still a teenager, she starred in the silent classics Beau Brummel (1924) and Don Juan (1926), then found even greater success in the sound era with strong performances in Red Dust (1932), Dodsworth (1936), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), Midnight (1939), The Maltese Falcon (1941) and Little Women (1949). She won the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress for The Great Lie (1941). She retired from acting following her role in the star-studded Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), then embarked on a successful literary career that included two autobiographies and two novels.

Movie Lovers' Ratings & Reviews:
Based on 145 ratings.
With stars like Mary Astor and Lilyan Tashman
and director Robert Florey, this movie proves
that poverty row didn't necessarily mean cheap
and tacky.
The story of a marriage - he a struggling author,
she a former governess who returns to work
so he will be able to write his next novel in peace.
The old story, he finds success but it goes to his
head slightly and tantalizing Tashman, as the
neighbour with a husband who doesn't under
stand her, is just the gal to help him forget -
that he is married. Being a pre-code, even if
it is from lowly World Wide, there are lots of
risqué parts, women's underwear strewn
around the house - just not his wife's!!
But Mary Astor makes you believe and things are not so black and white as they seem. A real
quality film and the ending is not as hackneyed
as it would appear.
