Rating: 4.5/5 -- Somehow, though, the film itself becomes like a drug, and seeing it and the lead character's personal journey through to the end becomes like a compulsion. Full Review

Credit the filmmakers with descending persuasively into the swampy squalor of a diseased mind. If you're in the mood to go there with them, Filth offers an indecently bracing wallow. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- There is a grotesque whimsy in Filth that calls to mind the delicious dark humour of American Psycho and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Full Review

Rating: 1/4 -- "Filth" demonstrates that contemporary filmmakers would do well to fine new ways of getting their hands dirty. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- Unlike Jude Law's similarly offensive title character in Dom Hemingway, McAvoy is given a far better story to work from. Full Review

3 stars out of 4 -- As Scottish detective Bruce Robertson, James McAvoy is a volcano of perversions in full eruption...

James McAvoy has pulled off a performance so searing and intense that he manages to imbue this drug-addicted, racist sociopath with just enough vulnerability to make the movie work. Full Review

Product Description:

James McAvoy stars in director Jon S. Baird's outrageous dark comedy based on the book by Irvine Welsh, and centered on the exploits of a debauched cop on a mission to crack a murder case, earn a big promotion, and win back his estranged wife. Detective Sergeant Bruce Robertson (McAvoy) is unlike any cop on the force. A pervert, a drug addict, and an irredeemable jerk, he thinks he's in control, even as his life spirals into oblivion. Now, in order to earn a major promotion, Detective Robertson will actually have to work, instead of hustling his way though each day in a haze of drugs and alcohol. Meanwhile, the harder he tries to get a grip, the further his future seems to slip out of reach. Jamie Bell, Jim Broadbent, Imogen Poots, Shirley Henderson, and Joanne Froggat co-star.
