Rating: 1/4 -- A film about a junkie rock musician, played by Michael Pitt at his most narcissistic, doing nothing in particular for the better part of 97 minutes isn't my idea of either a good time or a serious endeavor. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- The strength of Last Days is found in the nihilistic performance of Pitt. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- Last Days will cast a poetic spell on some viewers, as it did this one, and will seem mind-sappingly boring to others.

Van Sant brings a lyricism, a dreamy sensibility that infuses his detachment with sympathy. Last Days, which is informed by the suicide of Kurt Cobain, is a hauntingly beautiful tone poem. Full Review

Rating: 2/4 -- While Last Days succeeds as a nature documentary, Van Sant fails to penetrate human nature. The result is a portrait without a face.

Rating: D- -- Boring, self-indulgent and punctuated by Van Sant's trademark homosexual kissing scene, "Last Days" will make you wish that this were Van Sant's last movie. Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

An official selection in the 2005 Cannes Film festival, Gus Van Sant's Last Days is inspired by the final hours of Kurt Cobain. The film introduces us to Blake (Michael Pitt), a brilliant, but troubled musician. Success has left him in a lonely place, where livelihoods rest on his shoulders and old friends regularly tap him for money and favors. The film follows Blake through a handful of hours spent in and near his wooded home... a fugitive from his own life.
