Patients' rights lawyer Colette Hughes (Hilary Swank) takes the case of Eleanor Riese (Helena Bonham Carter), a mistreated psychiatric patient. Eleanor is unable to refuse the antipsychotic medication given to her after being involuntarily committed to a California mental hospital. With the help of her legal partner Mort Cohen (Jeffrey Tambor), Colette fights for Eleanor while also forming an unlikely friendship with her client. Directed by Bille August. Based on a true story.
