Robendra Shankar Ravi Shankar says (born April 7, 1920 in Varanasi, while in British India, and died December 11, 2012 in San Diego) is a Indian sitar player and composer musician of international reputation since the 1960s His name is often preceded by the honorary title of Pandit. He is the father of Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar, the brother of the dancer Uday Shankar and uncle Ananda Shankar, son of the latter. It remains the most famous Indian musician in the world and the first ambassador of Indian music.
