When the original female star, Patricia Morrison, turned out to tower over Ladd, she was replaced by Lake, and a partnership was born that would last through two more features before the chemistry burned out.

First-rate noir thriller.

Product Description:
A classic film noir, this murder mystery is based on the the Dashiell Hammet novel and said to be the inspiration for Akira Kurosawa's YOJIMBO. When a corrupt politician (Brian Donlevy) is accused of murder, his assistant (Alan Ladd) hunts the real killer, avoiding amorous advances from his boss' fiancée (Veronica Lake) and attacks from gangsters along the way. The cold, clinical detachment of noir mainstays and frequent collaborators Ladd, Lake, and henchman William Bendix stand in stark contrast to the relative warmth of Donlevy, which all serves to capture Hammet's cynical voice and make this GLASS KEY an arguably better version than the 1935 film of the same name.
