Rating: 3.5/4 -- Made with delicacy and care by a cast and crew determined to animate a complex central character, Ammonite may skirt the truth when it comes to history but it uncovers a pure vein when exploring Mary's inner life. Full Review

This is the work of a mature filmmaker in full command of his voice, yielding remarkable performances, chief among them a complex character study of stoicism and desire from Kate Winslet that might be the best work of her career.

Winslet and Ronan are a perfect match, their gestures and looks at first at odds, then beautifully in sync, until circumstances once more force them apart. Full Review

Product Description:

In mid-nineteenth-century England, archaeologist Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) trawls the seaside in search of fossils, hoping to solidify her status in the scientific community. The two women then engage in an intense yet intimate relationship, which shifts the course of their respective futures. Written and directed by Francis Lee. Gemma Jones, Fiona Shaw, and James McArdle co-star.
