Rating: 2/5 -- This Lithuanian love story from Kristina Buozyte offers a discomfiting blend of visual ecstasy and narrative sterility.

Trippy in the best sense, VANISHING WAVES adds a healthy dose of eroticism to its familiar sci-fi genre.

Buozyte and her co-writer and "visual style author" Bruno Samper make the most of pricey-looking production design, cocooning their leads in soft white light, prowling dolly shots, and shimmering special effects. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/4 -- A scintillating sci-fi throwback, Vanishing Waves draws inspiration from Stanley Kubrick and Andrei Tarkovsky, among others, but without feeling plagiaristic. Full Review

Product Description:

A scientific experiment to confirm the consciousness of a young, comatose woman results in an ethereal love affair that's doomed in this visionary sci-fi romance from director Kristina Buozyte (THE COLLECTRESS). When a team of scientists design a complex series of sensory-deprivation experiments aimed at making contact with catatonic Aurora (Jurga Jutaite), Lukas (Marius Jampolskis) volunteers as a test subject. Incredibly, Lukas not only manages to reach through to Aurora, he also enters into a deeply erotic, psychic romance with her that transcends the boundaries of physical reality. With the researchers none the wiser, Aurora and Lucas connect in a series of clandestine meetings set against a phantasmagorical backdrop created by their shared subconscious. But this romance can't last, and as their marvelous alternate realm comes crumbling down, Aurora and Lukas are torn apart by powerful forces beyond their both their comprehension, and their control.
