Product Description:
Drawing on a variety of influences, including country, indie-rock, and Latin rhythms to name just a few, Calexico has carved out an inimitable niche in the music world. Formed by core members Joey Burns and John Convertino in 1996, the band was initially conceived as a side project to Burns' and Convertino's work in Howe Gelb's Giant Sand. Success came quickly, however, and Calexico soon became a full time concern. Multi-instrumentalist Paul Niehaus (Lambchop) came on board in 2001, and the group frequently draws on a number of accomplished musicians to flesh out their live sound. November 2002 found the band in London, where they performed as part of the "Further Beyond Nashville" festival at the Barbican Theatre. Touring to support their FEAST OF WIRE album, the group also includes material from their entire career, and are further augmented on a number of songs by guest vocalist Francoiz Breut, and 8-piece mariachi band Mariachi Luz de Luna. The energy and soul of their music is perfectly captured, and is complemented by a documentary on the group's fascinating and eclectic career.
