Rating: 2.5/5 -- Robert the Bruce places too much emphasis on the secondary characters. The film could have been titled "Morag the Widow Saves Scotland." Full Review

[Bruce's] joints may be stiffer than his resolve; but, in placing the warrior temporarily aside, Macfadyen and his director have helped us more clearly to see the man. Full Review

3 stars out of 4 -- ROBERT THE BRAVE is gorgeously filmed by cinematographer John Garrett, making the most of every exquisitely lit crag of the Scottish countryside.

Product Description:

Faced with the consequences of his army's consistent failure, Scottish nobleman Robert the Bruce (Angus Macfadyen) flees from conflict to heal his wounds and escape those seeking to turn him in to collect the reward for his capture. Robert finds shelter in the home of a peasant woman (Anna Hutchison), and the two develop a strong friendship as she and the three children in her charge tend to him. The nobleman then learns the true extent of Scottish nationalism, inspiring him to resume the cause for independence. Directed by Richard Gray. Jared Harris and Zach McGowan co-star.
