Entertainment Reviews:
Most surprising are the involving performances of all concerned....Perhaps because the story came directly out of their tradition, they transport us completely to this very different but somehow familiar world.
Los Angeles Times
The Yakels allowed Dean considerable access into their lives and stories, all of which color Tanna's impressive results.

Tanna is an exquisite story of survival, evolution, grief, anger and desire: not just romantic desire, but that for both revenge and peace.

4 stars out of 5 -- [With] fantastically vital performances from the Yakel-tribe cast....TANNA is an open-throated and universal call for change from within.
The Guardian
Rating: 4/5 --
Some sequences sag, through little more than familiarity, but Tanna largely engages and, when the rhythms really click, moves with spine-tingling depth.

Tanna has an elemental beauty that is difficult to resist, and the lives and rituals of the Vanuatuan tribes are captured with a superb degree of fidelity and sensitivity.

Product Description:
The forbidden romance between South Pacific islanders Wawa (Marie Wawa) and Dain (Mungau Dain) is told from the perspective of Wawa's scampish little sister Selin (Marceline Rofit). When Wawa is ordered to marry into a neighboring tribe as part of a peace offering, the two lovers flee into territories beyond their jungle home. This first feature to be shot on the tropical island of Vanuatu was inspired by a true love story told to Australian directors Bentley Dean and Martin Butler during the seven months they lived among the indigenous Yakel people.
