We can't all be Quentin Tarantino, but that doesn't stop some people from trying.

Rating: B --
The real shock of Sushi Girl is how it manages to hold interest despite its familiar moves, working to build a grim personality of its own. Saxton and Pfaff have managed to pull off an entertaining picture.

Sushi Girl is intermittently stylish and relatively technically competent but so painfully derivative that it's at times embarrassing to watch. Saxton really loves his Tarantino and if you do too you may marginally tolerate this violent piece of fodder.

All of the characters are unsympathetic, and the actors all seem to get such joy out of exploring their own sadistic sides.

There's nothing wrong with paying homage to a film that went before (Reservoir Dogs), if you make it clear that's what you're doing. I never got that vibe with "Sushi Girl."

Product Description:
An ex-convict joins his former partners-in-crime for a celebratory sushi dinner served on the body of a naked woman, and finds the conversation veering into dangerous territory in this crime thriller featuring Tony Todd, Sonny Chiba, and Mark Hammill. Fish kept the details of his gang's last robbery a secret for six long years. Now that he's a free man, his criminal cohorts invite him out for sushi as a means of thanking him for his silence. But this isn't your typical sushi diner; this time the delicacies will be served on the body of a beautiful woman trained specifically to ignore everything that is said and done in her presence. But as the topic of conversation amongst the thieves turns repeatedly to the crime and the missing take, the air in the room grows heavy with the weight of greed and desperation.
