The script, based on a novel by John Brophy, boasts plenty of the writer-director's punchy and ironic dialogue.

Rating: 4/5 -- It takes a while for Fixed Bayonets! to build steam, but the second half is a landmine field of devastating setpieces, punctuated with the threat of sudden, overwhelming and even self-inflicted violence. Full Review

Fuller's action sequences were one of a kind, getting close to the fray and moving quickly, but never more quickly than the eye can follow. Full Review

Fixed Bayonets is a moving war drama and may well remain the best of the films about the Korean conflict. Full Review

Rating: B+ -- The grunts 'talk the talk' and the action sequences are bloody good. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/4 -- If the film has endured it's because of a few aspects particular to Fuller's career, which began not in film but in yellow journalism and pulp writing. Full Review

Its probings into the night thoughts of warriors are fairly shallow stuff, but the battles are realistic and the all-male cast happily lacks the usual comedian from Brooklyn. Full Review

Product Description:

Director Sam Fuller (PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET) turns his touch to this 1951 film about the Korean War. Set in Korea's frozen mountains, FIXED BAYONETS follows a small group of soldiers as they protect 15,000 troops from attack. Though everyone considers the man in charge a hero, he is far less than he appears and this will have deadly consequences. Screen icon James Dean makes an early appearance in this action-driven drama.
