Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 4/10 --
The Nightmare is momentarily diverting... But it feels over-long, it doesn't have much to say in spite of the admittedly interesting subject matter, and it's unlikely non-horror fans are going to find it particularly scary.

Wicked Horror
Rating: 3/5 --
While there is a well-maintained sense of lurking discomfort, the gotcha scenes feel a little cheap.

Ascher should be making actual horror movies.

Little White Lies
Rating: 2/5 --
Spooky enough, but other people's dreams are rather like other people's holiday snaps, and once you've heard one version of the tale, you have pretty much heard them all.

The Nightmare is a tremendously successful film on many levels.

Hammer to Nail

It just isn't as informative as it could be. It's plenty scary, and on that level satisfying. It would be great to see Ascher make a full-on horror feature.

The Nightmare obviously wants to scare people, and even though Ascher can be hit or miss on the recreations, he does have a good share of unnerving moments courtesy of his subjects.

Way Too Indie
Description by OLDIES.com:
A documentary-horror film exploring the phenomenon of Sleep Paralysis through the eyes of eight very different people. These people (and a surprisingly large number of others) often find themselves trapped between the sleeping and waking worlds, totally unable to move but aware of their surroundings while being subject to frequently disturbing sights and sounds. A strange element to these visions is that despite the fact that they know nothing of one another (and had never heard of sleep paralysis before it happened to them), many see similar ghostly shadow men. This is one of many reasons many people insist this is more than just a sleep disorder. THE NIGHTMARE digs deep into not only the particulars of these eight people's uncanny experiences (through elaborate, sometimes surreal dramatizations), but it also explores their search to understand what they've gone through and how it's changed their lives.
