Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 5/5 --
The expressive elegance of Antonioni's camera movements -- the way he glides around a scene, composing and recomposing the human figures within it to suggest psychological patterns and unacknowledged erotic connections -- still has the power to amaze.
New York Times
An unexpected treasure.

Village Voice
Though seldom seen now, Antonioni's fourth feature is one of his greatest films, in which diverse plot strands, character psychology, and a masterful control of the camera are perfectly fused.

Time Out
[A]n extraordinarily nuanced and suggestive scene involving multiple meetings on an otherwise deserted beach signposts L'AVVENTURA five years later.

plays like the haunting island-search centerpiece in L'Avventura in gestation
Filmcritic.com
Rating: 3.5/4 --
Antonioni's ability to use the screen's illusion of depth or the way he lends an eloquence to the space between characters is a marvel. How he has these people stand is so much more expressive than anything they say.

4 stars out of 5 -- A beach scene, the camera constantly weaving and circling as gossip spreads and alliances are formed and broken, is virtuoso stuff.

Product Description:
An early drama from director Antonioni (BLOW UP), LE AMICHE is an allegory about the changing roles of women in society. Clelia (Rossi-Drago) is a beautiful young woman who works in the fashion industry, where she discovers a world of shallow people with put-on attitudes and ideas. The only solace she is able to find in this cruel and phony world is in the companionship of young architect Carlo.
