4 stars out of 5 -- Gorgeously lensing sea, skin and sun, director/co-writer Justin Mitchell slides between a series of startling contrasts....Like the greatest sports movies, RIO BREAKS is bigger than the sport it celebrates.

Product Description:
Two adolescent surfers from the slums of Rio find their friendship falling victim to life in the crime-ridden favela. Fabio is 13; his best friend Naama is twelve. When they're out riding the waves on Arpoador Beach, everything is great. Back up on the hill, however, the pressure of poverty weighs heavily on their friendship. Lately, Naama has fallen in with a bad crowd. Surfing was supposed to be a means for the two friends to escape the ghetto, but every day, Naama only seems to faller deeper into a tragic cycle of violence and crime.
