Rating: B -- This melodrama, based on Edna Ferber's novel, is better known for its offscreen facts and scandals. It's a co-directed Oscar-winning film, which gives a rare opportunity to see the acting of Frances Farmer. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- Although there is nothing new in the theme, it has been simply and powerfully expressed by a number of admirable performances, and it has been played against an interesting background. Full Review

Hawks transformed Edna Ferber's historical novel into a sprawling adventure of hard-driving masculine will and a tragedy of its erotic limits.

Description by OLDIES.com:

Set in 1884 in northern Wisconsin, Come and Get It stars Edward Arnold as Barney Glasgow, an ambitious lumberman seeking to form a business partnership who decides to marry a businessman's daughter instead of his true love, Lotta Morgan (Frances Farmer), a beautiful and strong-willed saloon singer. Glasgow becomes wealthy and powerful while Lotta marries his Norwegian friend, Swan Bostrum (Walter Brennan), an old-fashioned lumberjack. Years later, Lotta has died and Glasgow meets her daughter, also named Lotta (also Frances Farmer). Dissatisfied with his life of luxury and power, Glasgow tries to woo the young woman, but she has another suitor.
