Music Lovers' Ratings & Reviews:
Based on 7 ratings.
Ms. LaBelle is so talented, and has had such a long career, on a number of music company labels, that one compilation would have to be a "Bear Family" type, 10 or more CD set to contain ALL of her important output (and satisfy almost everyone!). This is, however, listed as Definitive, and therefore should have also included her version of "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman" which is relatively raucous, may seem out of place here (or anywhere else!) but was a national hit, helped to put her on the map, and is a strong indication of the great energy that some of her latter recordings would exhibit (with only a bit more arrangement & polish!). Also, "If Only You Knew" should have been included, but this compilation is heavy on MCA label material, and the last song & "Lady Marmalade" were issued on Columbia / Epic/ Philadelphia International and not licensed for inclusion, here. You must read between the lines - Oldies.com, for example, can have a B. B. King's Greatest Hits, but with only material from his first Modern / RPM label days. You look at this, and say, "Where is 'The Thrill Is Gone'?" and other subsequent material. This isn't- exactly - a lie - just open to Interpretation!
