When Russian dictator Joseph Stalin came to power in 1924, he promised the Soviet people a truly socialist country where power was shared and the workers were equal. His claims even invigorated the American people, some of whom flew to his side. The History Channel examines the United State's pre-Cold War fascination with the murderous leader in HISTORY UNDERCOVER: YANKS FOR STALIN. Stalin's five-year plan for prosperity necessitated a large amount of workers and America responded in kind, sending a host of multi-skilled citizens. But, upon arrival in the Soviet Union, many found the same hostile conditions that killed six million of the native people.
