Rating: B- -- The film's success lies in Mitchum's hard-boiled portrayal of Marlowe. Full Review

Dick Richards' movie is attractive, but it's reduced to an honorable copy that can never surpass the originals. [Full Review in Spanish] Full Review

Watching this movie has approximately the same effect as being locked overnight in a secondhand clothing store in Pasadena. There is an awful lot of dust and, after a while, the dummies look as if they are moving. Full Review

Unfortunately, this film is without direction and flounders in a morass of poorly conceived posturing. Full Review

Despite an impressive production and some firstrate performances, this third version fails to generate much suspense or excitement. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- What you have here is a very solid film that zings as well as zigs and zags to keep you guessing. Full Review

Product Description:

Another detective story by Raymond Chandler set in the 1940's has Phillip Marlowe on two cases, searching for a thug's girl and a jade necklace at the same time. What Marlowe doesn't realize is that the two seemingly unrelated cases are actually one and the same. Third remake of the story after The Falcon Takes Over (1942) and Murder, My Sweet (1945). Although the original sequel The Big Sleep (1946) was set in Los Angeles, the 1977 remake (again with Mitchum) was set in London.
