TOMATOMETER
Ewing joins a generation of filmmakers who are using every piece of cinematic grammar available to communicate the emotional core of their stories and characters...
Washington Post
[A] mix of re-creations, portraiture, and poetry that goes far beyond a typical nonfiction tale of enduring hardship and matters of the heart.
Rolling Stone
Turning time and memory into an elliptical portrait of what it means when borders become barriers, I CARRY YOU WITH ME, the first narrative feature from the documentary filmmaker Heidi Ewing, trades distance for empathy.
New York Times
With almost Malickian impressionistic flair and a stealthily innovative mix of fictional and nonfictional elements, I CARRY YOU WITH ME pulls you past its shortcomings, building toward a hushed stunner of a conclusion.
Hollywood Reporter
3 stars out of 4 -- Ewing brings her documentary sensibility to the table here, and her collaborator in this is the uber-talented Mexican cinematographer Juan Pablo Ramírez.
RogerEbert.com
Ewing’s evocative storytelling style takes an immigration narrative shared by many undocumented people and gives it the intimate, relatable texture of everyday life.
A.V. Club
[T]he love story of Ivan and Gerardo is an important one, and by sharing it, Ewing brings attention to the challenges facing LGBTQ people in Mexico, encouraging empathy for those who feel compelled to flee to the U.S. in order to live openly.

Product Description:
Directed by Heidi Ewing, this drama is based on the real-life story of gay couple Ivan (Armando Espitia) and Gerardo (Christian Vasquez). In Mexico where homosexuality bears a stigma, Ivan hides his gayness for fear of being deprived of visitation rights to see his son with an ex. Also frustrated with his culinary life not taking off, Ivan decides to try his luck and enters America as an undocumented immigrant. He lands in New York, where Gerardo also follows suit. In New York, the two find it challenging to achieve the American dream, but they could now be openly gay.
