Product Description:

Like wine and some kinds of cheese, Eddie Cantor only improved with age. This collection features clips of the legendary actor-comedian-singer when he was in his 60s, performing beloved favorites, rarely heard songs, and wacky skits. EDDIE CANTOR FROM THE VAULTS VOL. 1 also boasts many candid, unscripted moments and hilarious flubs.

Product Description:

Here is a rare glimpse into the legendary Eddie Cantor's output in the 50s. Now you can see that his high energy and great talent never waned even at almost 65 years old! Included are hilarious skits and the great songs you love hearing him sing. Catch these great versions of IDA, FOR ME AND MY GAL & his great theme song! You will also hear original songs he never even recorded! Watch the skits carefully for flubs and outlandish Cantor behavior such as showing off his underwear during the laundromat sketch or his remarks at the end when he is confused about the camera angle and is heard asking "Are they gonna close in'" Several times he jokingly refers to Al Goodman, his orchestra leader. You also get two of the beloved Maxie the Taxi sketches, which was extremely popular at the time. Trivia fans note that Neil Sedaka, a longtime fan of Cantor's, had a father named Max who drove a cab. They nicknamed him Maxie the Taxi! It's also humorous to hear the many times they bring up the name Ajax during the show even when it wasn't a formal commercial! Cantor's son-in-law, Roberto Gari, is seen many times during the show displaying his great talents. Look for him playing a bum in the opening as well as the brother of a man who thinks he's a horse in a psychiatrist sketch. Catch his great impersonation of Judy Holliday! A wonderful Broadway character actor named Joe E. Marks adds so much to the scientist sketch. And if it weren't a dog sketch, that one might have been censored for being so risque! You can check out the cue card flub during "Spring Has Captured the Country." Charlie Cantor, a great character actor and no relation to our star, is hysterical and a perfect partner to Cantor in several sketches (especially in drag!) And although it is politically incorrect today to do blackface, Cantor always did it with the utmost respect to African Americans. Anne Jeffreys, then the star of Broadway's Kiss Me Kate and later TV's Topper, joins Eddie for a couple of duets. A bonus track features a rare performance by Eddie and Marion Colby.
