Entertainment Reviews:
THE DAMNED UNITED shares with THE QUEEN and FROST/NIXON not only a writer and a star, but also a precise and satisfying sense of proportion.
New York Times
3 stars out of 5 -- Morgan clearly has a deep affection for the source material and its protagonist while, as clough, Sheen hits screamers into the back of the net pretty much every time he's on screen.
Total Film
Rating: B --
The Damned United is a thoughtful and entertaining study on the perils of ambition that has little to do with soccer and a lot to do with being human. Well-played.

Detroit News
The story should have added up to an interesting and exciting movie, but it didn't for me. It was not due to Sheen's acting, but rather to a boring and confusing script.

The Atlantic
For once we have a movie in which learning humility --learning that ambition can be as self-defeating a force as laziness given faulty motivation -- is the point of the film and not some short stop on the way to a thunderous comeback.

WORLD
It's no accident that Sheen displays some of the same incisive understanding of human inconsistency and political strategy that he demonstrated in THE QUEEN and FROST/NIXON: Peter Morgan wrote all three screenplays...
Entertainment Weekly
3 stars out of 4 -- Well-made, with a seamless interweaving of archival footage, THE DAMNED UNITED is a straightforward character study. What vaults the film above the standard sports movie is the stellar performance by Michael Sheen.
USA Today
Product Description:
After tackling Tony Blair and David Frost, actor Michael Sheen turns to another driven historical figure: football manager Brian Clough. Talented but abrasive, Clough alienates some of those around him, including his rival, Don Revie. When Clough has the chance to coach Leeds, Revie’s former team, he takes on the role of the manager of the country’s best soccer team. Also starring Timothy Spall, Jim Broadbent, and Colm Meaney, this film marks the fourth time screenwriter Peter Morgan (THE QUEEN, FROST/NIXON) has crafted a character for Sheen.
