Tony Curtis and Piper Laurie are terrific together in No Room for the Groom, a rare comedic treat from director Douglas Sirk. On leave for two days, G.I. Alvah Morrell (Curtis) elopes with Lee Kingshead (Laurie) though a case of chicken pox prevents them from consummating their marriage. When he returns home after 10 months overseas, he finds his house overrun by Lees manipulative Mama (Spring Byington) who was unaware of the wedding. Determined to keep them apart, Mama uses every dirty trick in the book to get the marriage annulled so Lee can marry her boss, the well-to-do Herman Strouple (Don DeFore).
