Entertainment Reviews:
A powerful film, even though the script wears its liberal conscience on its sleeve (and further hedges its bets by casting nice Robert Redford as the sheriff), directed with austere authority in desert landcapes marvellously shot by Conrad Hall.

Time Out
The picture is reaching out a long way to hold on to its laconic dignity. There's the sloppy, needless rhetoric of a bar-room boaster's chat about democracy... there's the casting of a very white actress, bootpolish- browned, as the Indian girl.

The Spectator
Redford's 'presence' is magnificent, always suggesting the classically-structured, powerful-but-weak American.

It's basically a Western chase film that openly serves liberal messages over the Indian-white conflict.

Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here is another one of the best American movies, and in its own way, equally idiomatic, evocative, and resourceful [as Force of Evil].

This socially conscious Western represents a major comeback for blacklisted writer-director Polonsky, who identifies with the film's message and gets strong performances from Redford as the sheriff and Robert Blake as the hunted man.

A powerful drama masquerading as a western that promises slightly more than it is able to deliver.

Description by OLDIES.com:
Tell Them Willie Boy is Here, a modern western classic, is based on the true story of a Pauite Indian, named Willie Boy (Robert Blake) and his bride, Lola Boniface (Katharine Ross) who become the objects of the last great Western manhunt after he kills her father in a marriage by capture. The manhunt, led by Sheriff Christopher Cooper (Robert Redford) turns into a media circus when President Taft comes to visit the area and a mishap becomes twisted by the newspapers of the day. Released in 1969, Tell Them Willie Boy is Here was a triumph for Redford and was called by Time Magazine, A subtle, intense document of racial persecution that stands as one of the finest films of the year.
