Nicholas Ray tackles the subject of death with the objectivity of those who confront it, without losing courage when everything is lost. [Full Review in Spanish]

Lightning Over Water is chaotic, emotionally and esthetically.

It's a fitting heartfelt tribute to Ray.

Ozus' World Movie Reviews
It is obviously a sincere homage from a younger director to the older man, but it remains dubious and smacks of exploitation.

Unquestionably the worst movie of Wim Wenders' career and indeed one of the worst movies ever made...

Reel Film Reviews
Rating: 3/4 --
Wenders adds in some cruddy early-80s video from time to time, and the film is an odd mixture of powerful emotions and rambling nothingness.

Combustible Celluloid
Rating: 3/4 --
A poignant and often painful film in which Wenders and the terminally ill Ray attempt to make a film together in the last days before Ray's death in 1979.

Product Description:
Director Wim Wenders assembled this experimental project with the legendary American director Nicholas Ray. Shot as Ray was dying of cancer, the film finds him surrounded by family and friends as he reflects on his life and career. As he tells some amazing stories about his successes and compromises, it becomes clear that Wenders and Ray are creating something that is far more than a documentary, a film about a great artist and the nature of collaboration.
