Entertainment Reviews:
Director John Frankenheimer can't be faulted for a lack of serious purpose, just for a lack of material to fit his purpose.

The Horsemen takes its rightful place, if gawkily so, among Frankenheimer's best films

There is little balance given to the Afghan people shown here.

Neither John Frankenheimer's spare, heroic direction nor Claude Renoir's spectacular photography can quite bring this horseman to life.

The location shots in Afghanistan (and some in Spain) are off-beat and stunning, and are the best reason to see this film.

Description by OLDIES.com:
In Afghanistan, the ruthless sport of buzkashi (similar to polo) is a game of great pride. When Uraz (Omar Sharif) breaks his leg and loses a spirited match, he brings shame to his village, especially his father, Tursen (Jack Palance), a former champion. After losing his leg below the knee, Uraz, in order to regain his honor, must learn to ride again and win with a special, one-of-a-kind horse.
