Besides carrying the impact of an issue morally greater than the fate of individuals, the film is a study in personal heroism, cowardice, dignity, fear, hope and betrayal.

There is no Indiana Jones to save the day and no pat Hollywood ending to revise history. Voyage of the Damned is unquestionably a serious drama and treats its subject matter with the dignity that it should.

Description by OLDIES.com:
Voyage of the Damned is based on the story of the MS St. Louis, a German ocean liner whose captain tried to find homes for over 900 Jewish refugees from Germany. The event was the subject of a 1974 book by Gordon Thomas and Max Morgan-Witts, as well as this 1976 film directed by Stuart Rosenberg and starring Faye Dunaway, Oskar Werner, Lee Grant, Max von Sydow, James Mason and Malcolm McDowell, with music by Lalo Schifrin.
This is the French-Canadian release of the film - it is dubbed in French, with no English subtitles.
