Entertainment Reviews:
Villeneuve has accomplished what I thought impossible. Arrival stays true to the revelatory spirit of "Story of Your Life" while excising some of the story's more difficult concepts and adding a dash of Hollywood razzmatazz.

Memphis Flyer
[There's] a surprisingly affecting emotional core to Villeneuve’s enigma—a stealth poignancy woven into the fabric of its cerebral design. Arrival has come, like a visitor from the cosmos, to blow minds and break hearts. -- Grade: B+

Entertainment Weekly
ARRIVAL hews to its sleek, unfussy storytelling, which is both suspenseful and almost poetically abstract, an effect heightened by Jóhann Jóhannsson’s unsettling score.
Washington Post
...a movie that soars into the deep space of emotion, with ingenious visuals and sound design that explore the very nature of communication, and cinema.

Maclean's Magazine
3 stars out of 4 -- [T]his is ambitious, accomplished filmmaking that deserves an audience. It’s a film that forces viewers to reconsider that which makes us truly human, and the impact of grief on that timeline of existence.
