LADY BIRD isn’t a movie about any searing issue; it’s just a wonderful, rare character study of a young woman figuring out her identity, and all the pitfalls that follow.

3.5 stars out of 4 -- Screenwriter Greta Gerwig, in a spectacular solo directing debut, has carved a brilliantly hilarious and heartfelt script out of her own teen life....All that's left is blunt honesty...

LADY BIRD is something truly special: a coming-of-age comedy so funny, perceptive, and truthful that it makes most other films about adolescence look like little more than lessons in cliché.

[A] quirky, hilarious but also surprisingly deep journey about finding one’s own identity while transitioning out of childhood.

Rating: 4.5/5 -- [Greta] Gerwig captures the feeling of being a high schooler so perfectly that it's nearly impossible to not identify with one of the characters in some way. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- Forget the insane hype and you may have a better experience with it. Gerwig's script is gentle and accessible, but also lacks the surprises of a Lena Dunham (Girls) screenplay, the sass of what Diablo Cody (Juno) might have brought to things... Full Review

Product Description:

This coming-of-age tale set in 2002 Sacramento centers on Christine McPherson (Saoirse Ronan), an eccentric teenager who prefers to go by the name "Lady Bird." Over the course of her senior year of high school, Lady Bird deals with the pangs of first love and clashes with her mother (Laurie Metcalf) over her plans for the future. Written and directed by Greta Gerwig, who loosely based the story on her own life. Tracy Letts, Timothee Chalamet, and Lucas Hedges co-star.
