Product Description:

Unofficially picking up where THE BIG CHILL left off, the ABC series THIRTYSOMETHING chronicles a circle of baby boomers as they cope with life in the 1980s. The "me" decade brings fresh challenges to the young professionals: Hope (Mel Harris) learns to balance her feminist ideals with her role as a stay-at-home mother, while her husband, Michael (Ken Olin), attempts to make it in the advertising business. His partner, Elliot (Timothy Busfield), struggles in the confines of his own marriage to Nancy (Patricia Wettig), a restless homemaker who eventually stares down ovarian cancer. Together with artist friend Melissa (Melanie Mayron), free spirit Ellyn (Polly Draper), and English prof Gary Shepherd (Peter Horton), the couples pull together and fall apart under a variety of pressures and tragedies.

Created by Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, THIRTYSOMETHING has long been celebrated as a highwater mark in TV drama (the New York Times lovingly deemed it "television of substance"). The series showcases complex personal narratives while staying wary of melodrama. This collection includes every episode from the drama's critically acclaimed first season.

Product Description:

Winner of an Emmy for best dramatic series in 1988, thirtysomething was a new kind of hour-long drama when it premiered in 1987. For its four seasons on the air, it focused on the domestic and professional lives of a group of young urban professionals (Yuppies) at the height of the Reagan years; a circle of friends living in Philadelphia. Michael Steadman, an advertising copywriter struggling with the claims of his liberal Jewish background, and his wife Hope, a part-time social worker and full-time mother are the "settled" couple. The Steadmans were offset against Elliot, a not-really-grown-up graphic artist who was Michael's best friend at Penn, and his long-suffering wife Nancy, an illustrator who separated from him and developed breast cancer in subsequent seasons. Three unmarried friends also date back from college days: Ellyn is a career executive in city government; Gary teaches English at a liberal arts college; and Melissa, a freelance photographer, is Michael's cousin.
