Call In the Marines: Devil Dogs of Nam

Vietnam was far from the most deadly war in U.S. history - World War I, World War II and Korea each claimed many more lives - but it certainly checks in as one of the longest American conflicts, with well over 800,000 marines deployed there by the time of withdrawal in 1975. As produced by the Military Heritage Institute, the documentary miniseries DEVIL DOGS OF NAM: CALL IN THE MARINES travels inside of the conflict with an episode-by-episode examination of the brutal events that transpired in Southeast Asia in the late '60s and early '70s. The programs enlist a blend of archival footage, historical commentary, veteran testimonies, and much more, and place strongest thematic emphasis on exploring the legacy and history of the United States Marine Corps, its early actions in Vietnam, and initial maneuvers against the Viet Cong. Episodes include: SEMPER FI - the history of the U.S. Marine Corps per se, from its creation in 1775 through the 1953 Korean armistice; THE MARINES HAVE LANDED - the incidents that directly led to the Vietnam War and that prompted the USMC to high-tail it to Southeast Asia; IN COUNTRY, a chronicle of the first several USMC operations against the Viet Cong, including An Cuong and Operation Starlite; CHERRY, a poignant chronicle of various U.S. military recruits deployed in Vietnam; and MARINES WITH WINGS, a history of the Flying Leathernecks from 1912 through the Vietnam War.
