Rating: 2.5/4 -- This takes an awfully long time to hit its comic stride, although the film finally delivers the goods during the second half. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- The film flails airlessly, not unlike Day herself when she's mistakenly locked inside Taylor's anti-gravity prototype. Full Review

LIVELY & INVENTIVE SPY SPOOF... Movie Lover: from LOUISVILLE, KY US -- August, 2, 2016

CERTAINLY ONE OF THE MORE MEMORABLE AND OUTLANDISH SPY SPOOFS OF THE 1960S CLOAK-AND-DAGGER BOOM, THE GLASS BOTTOM BOAT FINDS CAREER GIRL DORIS DAY SHADOWED AS AN INDUSTRIAL SPY WHEN SHE IS EMPLOYED AT AN AERONAUTICAL-ASTRONAUTICAL THINK TANK. SCRIBING A BIO FOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST ROD TAYLOR, DORIS CATCHES QUITE A FEW EYES AS WELL, FROM BOSS JOHN MCGIVER, CIA OPERATIVE ERIC FLEMING, UNLILKELY SPY DOM DELUISE AS WELL AS NEIGHBORS ALICE PEARCE AND GEORGE TOBIAS WHO ARE MYSTIFIED BY HER EVERY MOVE. THE CLIMAX IS A VIVACIOUS PARTY AT ROD TAYLOR'S SPY/SCI-FI INNER-SANCTUM WHERE THE LIKES OF EXEC DICK MARTIN, MILITARY MOGUL EDWARD ANDREWS, SECURITY AGENT PAUL LYNDE AS WELL AS HOUSEKEEPER ELLEN CORBY COME INTO PLAY. THE PLOY OF THIS EXPLOIT IS GIZMO THE LATEST SPACE SECRET EQUALLY COVETED BY THE RUSSIANS. ONE OF DORIS DAY'S BEST FILMS AND A SOLID LINK IN HER SPY CYCLE, BEGINNING WITH ALFRED HITCHCOCK'S THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, CAPRICE AS WELL AS THE OCCASIONAL SPY THEME ON HER LATER TV SERIES. FRANK TASHLIN KEEPS THE COMEDIC VERVE IN MOTION (HE WOULD DIRECT THE STAR IN 1967'S CAPRICE), AND THE FILM IS LUSHLY MOUNTED ON ALL LEVELS. LOOK FOR TV VILLIAN THEO MARCUSE AS A CONTACT FOR DELUISE... AND YOUR SPY'S EYES ARE NOT DECEIVING YOU... NAPOLEON SOLO DROPS IN AT ROD TAYLOR'S SPY/SCI-FI BASH...
