Heavy-handed, predictable and often offensive in its treatment of certain characters, Paradise is a major misfire for Cody. Full Review

Rating: C -- Paradise is far from a bad start, but it's not the introduction Cody was probably capable of making. Full Review

Rating: 2/4 -- Neither train wreck nor triumph, it's proof that the author of "Juno," "Jennifer's Body" and "Young Adult" retains an ear for pungently funny turns of phrase and intriguing blends of rage and forgiveness.

Cody remains a singular voice for complex characters we don't often see onscreen, steadfast and smart, if usually way out of their depth. Full Review

Rating: 1.5/5 -- Cody has concocted a modern-day "Alice Through the Looking Glass," with none of the danger or wit. Full Review

Rating: 2/4 -- Cody's satiric knocks on Christians couldn't be more blundering and obvious. Yet her dialogue is often funny, and the unusual three-way friendship is refreshing. Full Review

Product Description:

JUNO screenwriter Diablo Cody makes her feature directorial debut with this romantic comedy-drama about a young woman whose close brush with death prompts her to reject her strict religious upbringing and venture to Las Vegas on a journey of self discovery. Twenty-one-year-old Montana native Lamb Mannerheim (Julianne Hough) was a devoted churchgoer until the day she was nearly burned to death. In the aftermath of that terrifying experience, Lamb realized that life was too short to spend singing hymns in her small-town church. It was time to start living, and the hearty insurance payout lining Lamb's pocket would give her the freedom to go wherever her heart desires. Convinced that Las Vegas is the best place to experience all that she's been missing in life, Lamb packs her bags, and books a flight to Sin City. It doesn't take her long to make a few new friends (Russell Brand and Octavia L. Spencer) once she hits the Strip, and soon this once-devout girl is discovering just how much the world has to offer. Nick Offerman and Holly Hunter co-star.
