Emotionally, it's a notch or two more mature than the usual Rankin-Bass production. Full Review

Certainly lives up to its reputation as the bleakest of the Rankin/Bass collection. But the 20 minutes of wallowing in misery is worthwhile for the company's best finale ever. Full Review

It's a lot like How The Grinch Stole Christmas, in other words, only with a Biblical foundation and not so much rhyming. The special is effective as all get-out, too. Full Review

A tiresome journey to the end. Its heart is in the right place, but it never arrives at a place that's interesting. Full Review

This tale let everyone see the true origin and spirit of Christmas in its purest form, coupled with a simple drum spewing a beat you're inclined to sing. Full Review

The drummer boy is a misanthrope who hates all of humanity, which makes for a surprisingly entertaining character to follow around. Rankin/Bass was terrified of playing up the darker sides of its characters. It shouldn't have been. Full Review

It has some truly touching moments near the end and you can't deny that the Rankin/Bass stop-action animation is still pretty cool. Full Review

Product Description:

THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY retells the classic story of a lonely little boy who visits a manger in Bethlehem and discovers the greatest gift of all--love. Teddy Eccles provides the voice for Aaron, an orphaned boy with a knack for drumming whose only friends are a lamb and a donkey. After joining a party of three royal kings, Aaron finds himself part of a convoy to witness the birth of Jesus. As the wealthy kings bestow incense and myrrh on the babe, Aaron searches for a gift of his own--a song.

Featuring a compelling soundtrack sung by the Vienna Boys Choir, THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY is a perfect holiday film. The movie both evokes a feeling of nostalgia from the early 1970s and demonstrates the timeless lesson of generosity to the unfortunate and poor. Directors Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin have adapted another winner with the biblical tale of THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY.
