Released after serving 18 months, convicted mercy killer Dr. Christine Allison (Susan Hayward) is hired by the ruthless prosecutor (Peter Finch) who sent her to prison to care for his wife (Diane Cilento), a mentally ill woman who accidentally killed her own father (Cyril Cusack). But when the alleged dead man turns up alive and his daughter dies of an overdose, Christine is accused of her patient's murder and nothing is quite what it seems.
