I don't think it's a "message picture" at all, although sometimes it acts like one. I see it more as a visionary effort, an attempt to lead us into certain aspects of the contemporary nightmare and leave us there to wander in the dark.

END OF THE ROAD boldly evokes the moment in 1968 when the decade's idealism began to collapse under the weight of too much reality.

Product Description:
Unorthodox treatment from a psychiatrist pushes an unstable young college professor right to the edge. He loses his already-shaky hold on reality after embarking on an affair with another professor's wife. Adapted from a John Barth story, this was originally released with an X rating.
