Two distinctive phases can be perceived in the phenomenal, iconic career of Tina Turner. The first is early period as part of Ike & Tina, in which she achieved pop success during the golden era of rock 'n' roll, the second he career renaissance as a solo performer in the 80s, having escaped the domineering abuse of her former husband. Her 1983 cover of Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together' became an international chart hit and a follow-up single 'What's Love Got To Do With It?' went straight to number one. The subsequent album, 1984's 'Private Dancer' was an instant hit, and went to become one of the biggest selling records of all time; by 1985, Turner's extraordinary comeback was complete when a series of Grammy awards and a starring role in 'Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome' arrived.
